PNGSL

Annette Mertens – Free-lance wildlife biologist, mainly active as project manager and in the field of project planning and evaluation. She was the general coordinator of the LIFE EX-TRA project, responsible for the actions in all the project countries.

Gloriana Aloisio – Financial Manager. She is a corporate lawyer with experience gained in the planning and reporting of projects financed by European funds (direct subventions and structural funds). She is also involved training activities and consultancy with public bodies, Universities and private companies.

Federico Striglioni – Naturalist, head of the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project he was responsible of the wolf-howling, snowtracking activities and of the ungulate census.

Pina Leone – Environmental education officer and expert of participatory management. Staff of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project she was the internal coordinator of the Italian project partners. In particular, she coordinated the Human Dimensions aspects of the project and the general internal administrative issues.

Umberto Di Nicola
– Veterinary of the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project he coordinated the activities about the assessment of damage caused by large carnivores on livestock. Besides this, he was responsible of the transfer of best practices about the prevention of damage and the analysis of damage cases.

Nicoletta Riganelli – Naturalist of the of the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project she cooperated in the planning and implementation of the ungulate census, wolf-howling and snow-tracking activities.

Carlo Artese – Wildlife biologist of the of the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project he participated in the planning and implementation of the ungulate census, wolf-howling and snow-tracking activities.

Simone Ricci
– Free-lance wildlife biologist, he has had a temporary contract with the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park in the frame of the LIFE EX-TRA project. He was the scientific coordinator of the wolf monitoring activities.

Mauro Fabrizio
- Ecologist, had a temporary contract with the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park in the frame of the LIFE EX-TRA project. He organized the field activities of the wolf monitoring activities.

Gino Damiani
– Wildlife technician of the of the Scientific Service of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA project he participated in the ungulate census, wolf-howling and snow-tracking activities.

PNATE

Willy Reggioni – Responsible for the Nature Conservation Department of Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino tosco-emiliano. He was the general coordinator of the LIFE EX-TRA Project activities in the Park.

Francesca Moretti – staff of the Nature Conservation Department of Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino tosco-emiliano. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project she was involved in the actions concerning GIS development and digitalization of collected data.

Mia Canestrini, Luigi Molinari, Davide Pagliai, Lorenza Grottoli – technicians. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project they were in charge of the following activities: monitoring of the presence of wolf packs in the territory of the National Park; monitoring predation of livestock and assistance to farmers for requesting compensation for damage caused by wolves; public awareness raising and information activities; dissemination of project results.

PNMS

Franco Perco – Director of the Monti Sibillini National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project he was the general coordinator of the Park activities.

Alessandro Rossetti
– biologist, is the officer of the Department of Management of the Territory and Sustainable Development of the Monti Sibillini National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project he was the scientific manager and coordinator of all the actions developed by the Park.

Paolo Salvi – biologist, cooperates with the Department of Management of the Territory and Sustainable Development of the Monti Sibillini National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project he has participated in the coordination and development of all the actions carried out by the Park.

Roberta Emili – officer of the Department of Administration and General Affairs of the of the Monti Sibillini National Park. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project she was the coordinator of all the administrative and financial aspects of the Park.

Studio faunistico Chiros – independent technical office. It has been subcontracted for the development of the following actions: assessment of prey availability and mortality; assessment of the presence and distribution of wolves and bears; distribution of electric fences and livestock guarding dogs to livestock raisers, actions to improve the availability of prey species. They also participated in the development of a Bear Emergency Team.

Daria Di Sabatino – free-lance veterinary. In the LIFE EX-TRA Project she was responsible for the assessment of the damage caused on livestock by wolves and bears, and she participated in the Bear Emergency Team.

Romania

Tudor Stancioiu - national project coordinator, specialist in forest ecology, management and conservation. Was involved in another LIFE project dealing with priority alpine, sub alpine and forest habitats in Romania. In LIFE EX-TRA, Tudor ensured the on the ground implementation of activities and coordinating the team from Transilvania University of Brasov. He was also the contact point of the project for Romania.

Dieter Simon - wildlife expert, is a professor involved in wildlife issues since 30 years. He has significant experience in field studies and researches concerning nature conservation. In the LIFE EX-TRA project, Dieter has been involved in preparation of field studies, monitoring and analysing the results and draw up the conclusions. He was very useful in the stakholders analysis carrried out together with Stefan Ungurean.

Ovidiu Ionescu - wildlife expert, is a well-known person involved both on national and international level in large carnivore issues. In the LIFE EX-TRA project, Ovidiu ensured the link with main stakeholders such as Brasov Hunting Association (he is the onorific president), Forest State Administration ROMSILVA and wildlife managers within the country.

Daniel Iordache - field engineer, is responsible of the wildlife management in two project areas (Dalnic and Sacele-Garcini) that are administrated by Transilvania University of Brasov. He is a field guy who is involved in all field activities carried out by the project (damage monitoring, snowtracking, camera trapping, prey species management).

BALKANI Wildlife Society (BWS)

Aleksandar Dutsov – coordinating LIFE EX-TRA activities for BWS, networking with partners and interested parties. Biologist, field research, monitoring, participated in brown bear emergency team.

- master in forestry, field research, monitoring, participated in brown bear emergency team.

Diana Zlatanova – LC expert: field research, monitoring, participates in brown bear emergency team. Analyses of data acquired.

Greece

Spyros Psaroudas – Partner and co-founder of “CALLISTO”, is an agriculturist with a Master Degree in Agricultural Economics. He has long experience in the development and coordination of Large Carnivores Conservation projects from the early 90’s, including five LIFE ones (1994-2002). He was the National Coordinator of the EX-TRA LIFE project in Greece.

Yorgos Mertzanis – co-founder and Scientific Director of “CALLISTO”, holding a PhD in the biogeography and ecology of the brown bear in Greece. He has a large experience in scientific research dating from 1985. He is ordinal member and represents Greece in international organisations dealing with the bear and the large carnivores (IBA, IUCN/BSG, LCIE). He was the Chief Scientist of the Project Team in Greece.

Thanos Tragos – biologist and partner of CALLISTO. He has a large experience in monitoring and recording the biology and ecology of the brown bear, as he participated in radiotelemetry research in Rhodope and Pindos mountains. He was the Head of the Bear Emergency Team of the EX-TRA LIFE project and member of the project team dealing with monitoring activities and development of the network of LGD breeders.

Susane Riegler – veterinary, finished the Veterinary School of Vienna in 1997 and worked for some years in an animal Rescue Centre in Vienna, before moving to Norwich, East Anglia, where she worked as a Veterinarian. In 2000 she moved to Greece. From 2005 is member of CALLISTO’s Bear Expert Team, being in charge of any wildlife that needs medical attention. In the EX-TRA LIFE project she was member of the Bear Emergency Team and contributed to the development of a network of LGD breeders.

Armin Riegler – animal carer and veterinary assistant, graguated in Vienna, working in parallel in an animal rescue shelter. In January 2009 he finished his study on bio-resources and environmental management at the University of Applied Life Science Vienna (BOKU). Since foundation of CALLISTO he is a stable Member of the Field and Bear Expert Team. In the EX-TRA LIFE project he was member of the Bear Emergency Team and contributed to the development of a network of LGD breeders.

Vaios Koutis – Forestry Technologist. He was born (and he is now living) in Prefecture of Trikala, the mountainous part of which is the LIFE EX-TRA project area in Greece. He has worked in the past in two LIFE bear conservation in the area. In the EX-TRA LIFE project he was the key local person for implementation of all activities dealing with wildlife-human conflict management and “stakeholder” consultation and involvement, contributing also to the development of a local network of LGD breeders.

Iliana Bousiaki has studied Political Sciences in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in Florence, Italy, while she took her master degree in Politics and Communication studying at London School of Economics and Political Science in London. She came at CALLISTO in 2008 as Communication and Press Officer and later on she became full member of the NGO (partner in the Society). She is now Head of the Communication Department of CALLISTO, and she was the “media” person of the EX-TRA LIFE project in Greece.

Tasos Hovardas – biologist with MSc in Environmental Biology and PhD in Environmental Sociology. He is working with CALLISTO since 2005, on issues dealing with development and implementation of evaluation methodologies in education and training. In the EX-TRA LIFE project he has acted acting as Human Dimension Expert, in charge of activities dealing with wildlife-human conflict management and “stakeholder” consultation and involvement.

Fotis Anastasiadis – Environmental Engineer, with experience on Environmental Impact Assessments and Waste Water Disposal Assessments. He has worked in the past as Management & Administration Consultant. He is now working in CALLISTO as Projects Manager. In the EX-TRA LIFE project he has acted acting as National Coordinator Assistant on management & administration issues.

Klairi Kountouri has studied economic sciences at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki and has been working as accountant’s assistant for several years. She is now working in CALLISTO as financial manager and accountant, and from this position, she has been in charge of financial monitoring and reporting for the activities of the EX-TRA LIFE project implemented in Greece.
